HANSTON - Windthorst High School captured the 50-50 league sixball championship this year but is still looking forward to its first undefeated season. Windthorst maintained a perfect record in league play but dropped an Armistice Day game to Haviland in Hanston.

50-50 Coaches Favor Burdett
Coaches in the 50-50 League favor Burdett to win the title again this season and rate Windthorst a close second. Five of the six coaches cast ballots on how they figured the league would finish. However, they did not their team in the order of finish. Teams receiving first place votes received six points, second five points, and etc. Burdett totaled 23 points, and Windthorst 21. Coaches voting were Jack Denison, Rozel; Jim Maskus, Hanston; Herb Greenstreet, Windthorst; James Sackrides, Spearville, and Mark Edwards, Burdett. Here's how the voting turned out: Burdett (23 pts.), Windthorst (21 pts.), Rozel (17 pts. ), Spearville (16 pts.), Hanston (13 pts.), and Offerle (10 pts.)

Rozel Streaks By Garfield
ROZEL - Coach Jack Denison's 8-ball team struck for four touchdowns here Thursday night for an 24-6 Rozel victory over Garfield. Fred Jennings and Derryl Franz each scored two touchdowns for Rozel, as the victors scored in each quarter. Bob Armstrong tallied Garfield's lone counter on a 30-yard spring in the third quarter.

Windthorst Knocks Off Ensign Gridders, 30-7
WINDTHORST - Coach Herb Greenstreet's Windthorst football machine bogged down the first half here Friday but started clicking the second half and crushed Ensign, 30-7. Windthorst tallied eight points in the third and 22 in the final canto. Strecker was the big gun for Windthorst. He scored on a 24 and 23-yard runs, passed to Ackerman on a 30-yard TD play, and fired an aerial strike to Konrade in a 22-yard payoff counter. Hornung scored the extra points. Ensign scored its points in the final period.
Cure Sparks Hanston Win
HANSTON - Kenny Cure raced 10 yards with three minutes left in the game to give Hanston a 14-8 victory over Kingsdown here Friday night. Kingdtown was leading 8-6 before Cure spoiled things for the visitors. Cure scored Hanston's first touchdown in the third quarter on a 25 yard trip. Neil Salmans dropped kicked the two extra points after the final touchdown.

Windthorst Slams Offerle 53-13
WINDTHORST - Windthorst plastered Offerle 53-13 here Friday in a 50-50 League game. Windthorst tallied seven points in the first quarter and cut loose for 20 in the second period to put the game on ice. Offerle didn't score until the second half. Fred Schmidt scored on a 36-yard pass play and Barlovie added a TD on a one-yard plunge. Glen Hornung counted 29 points for Windthorst on four touchdowns, 1, 3, 23, and 25 yards, and added five extra points. Lester Tieben added 3 TD's on runs of 34, 12, and 37. Leroy Schawe took a 31 yard pass from Hornung for a counter.
Burdett Handles Hanston in Loop Contest, 21-6
BURDETT - The Burdett Tigers turned back Hanston, 21-6 here Friday in a 50-50 League eightball battle. Burdett enjoyed a 14-0 halftime lead. The defending league champions tallied seven points the last half while Hanston was counting six. Orel Schadel counted twice for Burdett on runs of 12 and 5 yards. Stanley Hinneragardt sped 45 yards to score the other touchdown. Gerald Cooksey scored th three extra points. Lois scored Hanston's touchdown in the fourth period.

Hanston Falls to Spearville
SPEARVILLE - Spearville scored its third straight victory here Friday with a 26-7 eightball cierdict over Hanston. The two 50-50 League teams. Roth scored three touchdowns for Spearville and Mellecker one. Hornung added the three extra points.
Windthorst Racks Rozel
ROZEL - Tieben paced Windthorst to a 52-27 eightball victory over Rozel here Thursday night in the 50-50 league. The Windthorst ace outscored the Rozel team with 30 points. He bolted for five touchdowns. Hornung added 16 points and Ackerman tallied six. Franz sparked the Rozel attack with 18 points. Wilson scored six and Blake 3. Coach Jack Denison's team was crippled by the flu.

Windthorst Edges Spearville, 13-12
SPEARVILLE - Windthorst edged Spearville, 13-12 here Thursday in a battle of two of three contenders in the 50-50 League eightball race. Windthorst punched across a touchdown in the first quarter when Glen Hornung scored on a 30-yard pass. The teams left the field at intermission with Windthorst in front 7-0. Spearville scrambled back for a touchdown in the third period when Joe Mellecker dashed 12 yards to score. The two teams swapped counters in the final period. Leonard Tassett scored for Windthorst on a four-yard plunge, and Joe Schmidt plowed four yards to score for Spearville. The extra point by Hornung was the difference in the game.

Rozel Racks Hanston, 39-25 In 50-50 Eightball Clash
ROZEL - Rozel chalked up a 39-25 50-50 League eightball triumph over Hanston here Thursday night. It was the second league win for Coach Jack Denison's crew and gave Rozel an overall 3-2 record. Darryl Franz flashed 80 yards with a kickoff for the longest touchdown run of the evening. The Rozel back also scored two more touchdowns on runs of 10 and 15 yards. Gary Wilson posted two touchdowns on runs of 10 yards, and Danny Blake sprinted 15 yards for another Rozel TD. Franz and Wilson scored the extra points. Neil Salmans counted twice for Hanston on runs of 15 and 5 yards. Korf posted two counters on runs of 30 and 25 yards. Salmans scored the extra points.
Spearville Rumbles By Offerle, 44-25
SPEARVILLE - Spearville exploded for 20 points in the first period and went on to win a 44-25 50-50 eightball league victory over Offerle here Friday. Schmidt led the Spearville gridders with three touchdowns, Brughart tallied two and Havner and Mellecker came in with one each. Mellecker and Schmidt scored the extra points. Pekarek scored twice for Offerle and Schmitt and Reed posted single touchdowns. Barlovik scored the extra point.

Spearville in 20-12 Decision
SPEARVILLE - Notching two touchdowns in the final chapter, Spearville surged past Burdett, 20-12 here Friday night in a 50-50 league battle. The victors, now 4-1 in league play, trailed, 12-7 going into the final period. Roth and Mellecker, however, carried their club through to victory with short payoff plunges. Spearville scored the first touchdown in the opening period on a buck. Burdett in the middle periods with Hinnergardt scored on a seven-yard run and again on a 35-yard sprint.

Windthorst Win Streak Snapped
HAVILAND - Haviland kept its undefeated streak intact here Thursday with a 26-20 win over Windthorst. It was the first setback for Windthorst. It was Haviland's seventh triumph. Scoring for Haviland were Rose on a 22-yard run, Sneed Three times on 8, 3, an 1-yard plunges. Handling the Windthorst scoring were Konrade on a 25-yard pass from Streckler, Hornung fell on a blocked punt by Ackerman in the Haviland end zone, and Tieben plunged one yard.
Rozel Ambushed Chiefs, 45-12
PAWNEE ROCK - Pawnee Rock got its first taste of eight-man football here Friday afternoon and it was a bitter one for Coach Remel Blundell's Chiefs, as Rozel blasted the locals, 45-12. The Chiefs notched a 13 game winning streak in six-man before trying their hand at eight-man. Coach Jack Denison's invaders exploded for 20 points in the second period for a 26-12 advantage at halftime. Rozel blanked the Chiefs the last half while scoring 19 points. Co-captain Derryl Franz put on a blistering indvidual performance before the sideline spectators as he broke through the Chief for six touchdowns on sprints of 55, 60, 8, 60, 9, and 50 yards. Danny Blake scored the other Rozel TD on a one-yard sneak. Dick Myers scored both Pawnee Rock counters on runs of 50 and 10 yards.
Burdett Pins Bazine, 50-28
BAZINE - Burdett scored in each quarter to hand Bazine a 50-28 thumping here Friday. It was the third setback in six starts for the locals. Raymond York sparked the Burdett attack with three touchdowns. Lending a hand in the Burdett scoring were Thane Shank who tallied two touchdowns, and scoring one TD apiece were Cecil Cooksey, orel Schadel and Stanley Hinnergardt. Grover Bauer scored two extra points. Scoring for Bazine were Schaben, two touchdowns, and O'Brien and Rohr, one apiece. Jordan kicked for extra points.

Odin Racks Windthorst Team, 33-7
WINDTHORST - Coach Garroll Becker's Odin Tigers served notice that they have the top six-ball or eight-ball team in Kansas here Wednesday afternoon when they spoiled Windthorst's homecoming, 33-7. Windthorst, 50-50 League eight-ball champions, received the knockout blow in the first period when Tiger backs blazed for touchdowns and a 20-20 lead. The locals cut the margin to a 20-7 with a TD in the second quarter, Odin cushioned its lead with single counters' in the final two periods. Steiner, Hipp, and Wondra fired the offensive guns for Odin. Steiner fired two touchdown passes to Hip, 20 and 5 yards, and Hipp chalked up another TD ona 10-yard sprint. Steiner bolted 10 yards for a touchdown, and Wondra plunged one yard for his. Hipp added the three extra points. This was the first eight-ball game for the Tigers, and they didn't have any trouble adding a couple of players to their line-up. Odin's other five victories were in six-ball. Hornung scored the Windthorst TD after taking a lateral from Tieben.

Pekarek of Offerle Is Named 50-50 President
OFFERLE - Superintendent of schools Gordon Pekarek was elected president of the 50-50 League. Schools in the loop include Burdett, Rozel, Hanston, Spearville, Windthorst, Hanston, and Offerle. The league will play 8-man football. Other officers are Elgin Denio, superintendent of Spearville, vice president, and Gene Gibson, Offerle, secretary-treasurer.

HANSTON - Spearville handed Hanston a 13-6 setback in a 50-50 League eightball game Friday night. Spearville took a 13-0 lead with touchdowns in the second and third periods. Larry Korf passed to Paul Porter for Hanston's touchdown in the fourth chapter. The covered 25 yards.

HANSTON - A 20-yard touchdown pass from Korf to Brown stood up for a 6-0 Hanston win over Bucklin here Friday night in an eight-man game. Hanston scored the TD in the first quarter. It was the fourth win in seven starts for Hanston.

HANSTON - Bazine handed Hanston a 37-12 setback here Tuesday night in a non-league game. Bazine led 19-12 going into the final period. The visitors struck for 18 points in the last chapter. Craig sparked the Bazine Indians with four touchdowns.

HANSTON - Macksville exploded for a 43-18 victory over Hanston here Friday night. Macksville built a 31-0 halftime cushion and breezed home with 12 points the last half. Hanston tallied six points in the third and 12 in the fourth quarter.

SPEARVILLE - Spearville polished off Hanston, 49-20, in a 50-50 League game here Friday. Spearville exploded for 28 points in the second quarter to put the win in deep freeze. Scoring for Hanston were Hubin on a 10-yard pass, Cure on an 8-yard pass, and Howe on a 41-yard run.. Howe added the extra points.
